Vietnamese soldiers discover the children of S-21 prisoners, in a neighboring building, on January 8, 1979. Photographer Ho Van Tay said they found an entire house full of sick and dying kids, abandoned when the last Khmer Rouge fled Phnom Penh the day before. Many thousands of children whose parents were S-21 prisoners were also killed, however, and prison survivor Vann Nath described hearing the cries of children all night long. These children were fed and cared for by the Vietnamese soldiers. Photo: © Ho Van Tay
